A Healthier Way To Stay Fit During End Of Year Chaos

A Healthier Way To Stay Fit During End Of Year Chaos

Let’s take a deep breath together. Inhale slowly and deeply through the nose. For a count of 4.  Exhale slowly through your mouth for a count of four.

Whooo…Saaaaa…

The holiday season is magical, but it can also feel like an endurance test.

Both of those things can be true at the same time.

Between the endless to-do lists, crowded stores, packed schedules, and those tricky family dynamics, the holidays can push even the most grounded among us to the edge. The pressure to make everything perfect, coupled with the already full plate of modern life, can leave you feeling overwhelmed, drained, and in need of a long nap.

I see you, and I get it.

As someone who has dedicated their life to helping others navigate stress, anxiety, and burnout, I want to remind you of one essential truth: you don’t have to suffer through this season in silence. You don’t have to wear stress like a badge of honor or convince yourself that you’re the only one struggling.

Today, I’m here to share a few simple tools—your very own holiday survival guide—to help you create moments of peace, even amid the turmoil. Whether you need quick ways to calm your mind, strategies to get better sleep, or insight into why you’re feeling the way you do, this guide has you covered.

Your Holiday Survival Guide

1. How to Instantly Lower Your Stress

We’ve all been there: the car that cuts you off, the endless line at the checkout counter, or that one comment from a family member that sticks with you longer than it should.

In those moments, stress builds quickly and feels impossible to shake. But it doesn’t have to stay that way. By learning to reframe your thoughts and tune into your body’s signals, you can create calm in minutes.

Try this: pause, take five deep breaths, and identify one thing around you that brings you comfort or joy. It could be the warmth of your coffee mug, the sound of music playing in the background, or the cozy feeling of your favorite sweater. This practice shifts your brain away from stress and back to the present.

2. How to Get More Sleep

Sleep can feel elusive during the holidays. The late nights, early mornings, and an overactive mind running through everything you “should” be doing add up fast.

But sleep is non-negotiable when it comes to managing stress. Without it, your body struggles to reset, your emotions run higher, and your resilience takes a hit.

Here’s the good news: small changes can make a big difference. Create a wind-down routine by turning off screens an hour before bed, practicing a brief body scan meditation, or journaling your thoughts to clear your mind. Even if you can’t control everything, protecting those precious hours of rest will help you show up as your best self.

3. Top 8 Q&A’s About Stress

Feeling unsure about how stress is affecting you? Or confused about the best ways to manage it? You’re not alone.

Stress isn’t one-size-fits-all, and neither are the solutions. To help, I’ve rounded up the answers to the most common stress questions I hear from my clients:

  • How do I know if I’m too stressed?

  • What’s the difference between stress and anxiety?

  • Are there foods that can help me feel calmer?

  • Why does stress affect my sleep so much?

The answers may surprise you—and empower you to make meaningful changes.

4. Are You Burned Out?

Burnout is more than just being tired. It’s the feeling of being completely spent—emotionally, physically, and mentally. And the holiday hustle can fast-track even the most balanced person toward burnout if we’re not careful.

Here’s a quick check-in:

  • Do you feel unusually irritable or detached?

  • Are you struggling to find motivation, even for things you usually enjoy?

  • Do you feel like you’re running on empty, no matter how much you rest?

If any of these resonate, pause and take stock. Burnout doesn’t happen overnight, and there are ways to stop it in its tracks. Prioritize small, meaningful actions that bring you back to yourself—like saying “no” to obligations that don’t serve you or carving out 10 minutes to move your body each day.

5. Here’s What to Do

This is the heart of it all: what can you do, here and now, to stay steady when life feels anything but?

First, give yourself permission to let go of perfection. The holidays don’t have to look like a Hallmark movie to be meaningful. In fact, the imperfect moments—the last-minute adjustments, the laughter over burnt cookies—are often the ones we treasure most.

Second, lean into support. Whether that’s reaching out to a trusted friend, practicing self-compassion, or revisiting the tools in this email, know that you’re never alone in this journey.

Finally, focus on building a deeper relationship with yourself. The more you understand your needs, triggers, and boundaries, the better equipped you’ll be to navigate whatever comes your way.

While we can’t expect zero stress during the holidays—or in life—these strategies can help you find your anchor when the world feels like it’s spinning too fast.

Take these tools, adapt them to fit your life, and return to them as often as you need.

Remember: the most valuable gift you can give yourself this season is your own well-being.

With care and understanding,

~Coach Theresa Wells
